What’s new in Office 2013

Applies To: Excel 2013 , Word 2013 , Outlook 2013 , PowerPoint 2013 , OneNote 2013 , More...

Note SkyDrive is now OneDrive, and SkyDrive Pro is now OneDrive for Business. Read more about this change at From SkyDrive to OneDrive.

The first thing you’ll see when you open Microsoft Office is a clean, new look. But the features you know and use are still there—along with some new ones that are huge time savers. The new Office also works with smartphones, tablets, and in the cloud, even on PCs that don’t have Office installed. So now you can always get to your important files, no matter where you are or what you’re using.

Sign-in for Office where you need it

Use your Microsoft account to install Office.

Stream your Office programs to another computer.

Save files to OneDrive for easy access and sharing.

Keep your personal settings wherever you are.

Office for the whole family

Tired of sharing your computer with your whole family? An Office 365 Home subscription lets you install Office on up to five PCs or Macs. That way, everybody in your house can have their own copy of Office, their own files, and their own settings.

Updates are automatic, so you’ll always have the latest version. You get an additional 1 TB of OneDrive storage, so you’ll have your files—from to-do lists to presentations—wherever you go. And you get 60 free Skype world minutes each month so you can call friends or family in over 40 countries, even if they don’t have a Skype account.

You don’t even need to be in front of your own computer to use Office. As long as you’re connected to the Internet, you can use Office Online to create documents or keep working on documents you’ve saved to OneDrive.

Save and share files in the cloud

The cloud is like file storage in the sky. You can get to it anytime you’re online. Now it’s easy to save your Office files to your own OneDrive or your organization’s site. From there you can access and share your Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, and other Office files. You can even work together with your colleagues on the same file at the same time.
Shared meetings

Join online meetings and share PowerPoint slides, Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, and OneNote notes. Meeting attendees can see the files, even if they don’t have Office installed.
More choices for getting started

Instead of seeing a blank file, you can now choose between a recent file or a favorite template. In OneNote, you can sign in and open notebooks from the web or from your computer.
Improved Save As and Open

No more browsing and scrolling in dialog boxes. Your most-used folders are right there from the start. You can also pin a location so it’s always available.
Easier file sharing

Now there’s one place in your Office programs, File > Share, that puts together all your options for sharing your files with others.
